According to statistics from the Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM), between 2013 and 2017, Malaysia reported a total of 1,218 cases of sexual harassment,with 79% of victims being female and 21% male. Thismeans that one in five victims was male, a proportionthat cannot be ignored.

When we examine the data on reporting behaviour more closely, the challenges faced by male victims become even more evident. A YouGov survey of Malaysians in 2019 shows that among those who have experienced sexual harassment, only 53% would choose to report it or tell others. Among this 53%, the reporting rate for women is 57%, while for men it is only 44%. Women are more likely to seek help when they encounter sexual harassment, while men often choose to remain silent.
If we truly want to address sexual harassment, we must create a safespace where people of all genders can speak out safely. Everyone should have the equal right to share their experiences, express their trauma, and advocate for the justice and dignity they deserve. Only when every voice is heard can society truly move forward.
